A question, a problem, an idea? Answers to the most frequent questions are below.

Accounts and balances

What is the difference between cleared and forecast?

The cleared balance only counts the transactions you have ticked, that is, those already on your bank statement: it should match it. The forecast balance also counts uncleared transactions and those still to come until the end of the month.

What are “available” and “left to spend”?

Available is the money actually in your current accounts and cash (cleared balances). Left to spend is what will remain at the end of the month, once recurring items, card debits and planned transactions have gone through. Savings are not included.

My balance does not match my bank’s.

Clear the transactions that appear on your statement, then open the account, tap “Edit” and adjust the cleared balance: the app corrects its starting balance without touching your transactions.

Deferred debit cards

How does a deferred debit card work?

Spending builds up on the card, then is debited in one go from the linked current account on the debit day. The app creates this debit automatically and reminds you the day before.

My American Express card has statements from the 7th to the 6th.

Open the card, tap “Edit” and enter the statement closing day (here, 6). Leave this field empty for a standard card whose calendar-month spending is debited at once.

Household and sharing

How do I invite someone to my household?

Settings → Household: invite someone by e-mail, or share an invitation code valid for 7 days. They join the household from the app.

Can the other members see all my accounts?

No: each account is shared (visible to the household) or private (visible to you only). You choose when creating it, and can change it later.

Account and security

I forgot my password.

On the sign-in screen, tap “Forgot your password?”: you will receive a link by e-mail.

What are the password rules?

At least 12 characters, with no other constraint. Passwords that are too common (“password2026”, “qwertyuiop12”…) or based on your first name or e-mail address are refused. The simplest and safest option: a phrase of several words, such as “bike storm on tuesday”.

I received a “New sign-in” e-mail.

Housecount lets you know about every sign-in to your account, with the device and time. If it was you, there is nothing to do. Otherwise, choose a new password right away from the button in the e-mail: every open session will be signed out. If you sign in with Apple or Google, secure your Apple or Google account.

How do I turn on Face ID?

Settings → Security → Biometric lock. Your iPhone passcode works as a fallback.

How do I delete my account?

Settings → Delete my account. Your profile and private accounts are permanently deleted; see the privacy policy for details.
