Privacy policy
Housecount helps you manage your household accounts. It only collects what this service needs, does not connect to your bank, shows no advertising and never sells any data.
Data controller
Nicolas Benais, publisher of Housecount. For any question about your data: contact@housecount.fr.
Data collected
| Data | Why |
|---|---|
| Account: e-mail address, first name, password (stored encrypted, unreadable even to us) | To identify you and sign you in. |
| Sign in with Apple: identifier provided by Apple and, if you agree, your e-mail or a relay address | To sign you in without a password. |
| Data you enter: households, accounts, balances, transactions, categories, recurring items, notes | The core of the service: computing your balances, forecasts and breakdowns. |
| Invitations: e-mail address of the invited person | To send them the invitation to join your household. |
| Settings: language, theme, chosen notifications | To adapt the app to your preferences. |
| Device: model and system version (for example “iPhone 17e · iOS 27”), at each sign-in | To warn you by e-mail of a new sign-in to your account. It is quoted in the e-mail and not kept. |
| Your phone’s notification token | To send you the reminders you turned on. |
| Server technical logs (IP address, date, request) | Security and troubleshooting; kept for a few weeks. |
Housecount never asks for or stores any bank credentials, uses no analytics or tracking tools, and does not locate you. Face ID is handled entirely by your iPhone: the app never receives your biometric data.
Legal basis
Data is processed to provide the service you request by creating an account (performance of a contract), and, for technical logs, for the security of the service (legitimate interest).
Who can access it
Accounts you mark as shared are visible to the members of your household; accounts marked private are visible to you only. No data is sold, rented or passed on for commercial purposes.
Technical providers
| Provider | Role | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Clever Cloud | Hosting of the API and the database (encrypted, backed up daily) | France |
| Resend | Sending e-mails (address confirmation, forgotten password, invitations, new sign-in alerts) | European Union (Ireland) |
| Expo and Apple | Delivering notifications to your iPhone | United States |
| Apple | Sign in with Apple, if you choose it | United States |
Transfers outside the European Union are covered by the safeguards provided for by the GDPR (EU–US Data Privacy Framework or standard contractual clauses). Notifications only contain the text of the reminder.
Retention
Your data is kept as long as your account exists. When you delete your account from the app’s Settings, your profile, your private accounts and any household of which you are the only member are deleted; in a shared household, your shared accounts remain with the other members, closed. Database backups are erased after a few days.
Your rights
You can access, correct and delete your data, ask for its portability or object to its processing. Most of this can be done directly in the app; for the rest, write to contact@housecount.fr. You can also lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority (cnil.fr).
Security
Exchanges with the server are encrypted (HTTPS), passwords are stored in encrypted form, the database is encrypted at rest, and the app can be locked with Face ID. Passwords that are too short or too common are refused, sign-in attempts are limited, and every new sign-in is reported to you by e-mail.
Children
Housecount is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes
This policy may change with the app; the date below shows the last update. If there is a significant change, you will be informed in the app.
Last updated: October 25, 2026. This English version is a translation; in case of discrepancy, the French version prevails.
